How to draw a marble on a rock ?

Below is a tutorial by Ninja Tong on painting a marble on a rock 🤩

First Step: Draw a Circle on your rock

A clever method for drawing a circle on a rock is to use everyday objects as guides.

Select Your Guide

Start by choosing an object of the right size for the circle you want to draw. Flat and round objects of various sizes work well, such as bottle caps, coins, jar lids, or even glasses.

Position Your Guide

Place the chosen object as a guide on the rock where you want to draw the circle. Hold it firmly in place.

Trace the Circle

With a very dry pencil, begin tracing the outline of the guide object, being careful to maintain consistent pressure. You can either go all the way around or mark points along the circumference at regular intervals and connect them later.

Once you've finished the outline, gently remove the object. Inspect the circle you've drawn and, if necessary, make adjustments to make it more even by going over uneven parts.

You can also use a stencil as shown in the photo below :

Second Step: First Shading

At the bottom right of the circle, create a light shading with a pencil. Put a touch of white paint and quickly spread it with a slightly dampened brush.

Third Step: Interior of the Marble

  • Paint the inside of the marble in light gray.
  • Make a semicircle at the bottom of the circle with a slightly darker gray.
  • Add shading on the top of the circle and fade this shading towards the center of the marble
  • Outline the marble's lines with a pencil and paint the inside in red.

Fourth Step: Highlights

Add highlights:

  • Some white highlights with a brush.
  • Subtle yellow highlights. For this, you can use a brush with yellow paint diluted in a bit of water. A tip: you can see the result on paper before painting your rock.
